Another good suggestion is to get them a pool table. My parents never had to wonder where I was. I was always at my friends house playing pool.

Teens are at a difficult stage of like, a crossroad between childhood and adulthood. The problem is to strike a balance between their new need for independence and family guidelines, as they are too young and lacking experience to know where personal and family interests start and finish. Let on their own, they slack off or get into trouble, over controlled, they become rebellious. Garden activities and sport like swimming are excellent to channel their energies, while BBQs provide a chance for family gathering. A nice garden pergola will help socializing with family and friends too.
Nice site.

You were dead on when you said it, "If you have a pool your teen may be set for the whole summer."

Honest to goodness a pool is the #1 thing you can have that will keep your teen outside, however if you're like me and live in a climate that will allow you to use a pool like 3 months out of the year you need something else.

An idea that I use is setting up my backyard Deck/Patio with "cafe like" seating. It gives it a real fun vibe with umbrellas and tables about.
