I have been trying to convince my husband to build the kids a tree fort! They love playing outside, and I think they would have such a great time creating a fort and actually putting it to use with each other and their friends. My only concern is bugs . . . I remember my little fort getting infested when I was a kid, and I would like to avoid that with theirs!! Any tips?

Wow, what a site! Your template is awesome! Anyways, this article reminds me when I was a kid. I used to have a home with a giant tree in the backyard. It was an old oak tree. There was an exisiting 3 story tree house that was built some years before we moved in. That tree house contained some of my greatest childhood memories. Yes, children are bored outside these days since everything fun for them resides around electronics. Thank you for your tree house article. I hope you will paste a follow-up showing or telling of some designs with some pictures!

Great article. I built a tree house for my kids last summer. All I did was asked my boys where they wanted things nailed and I nailed it there. Three tree house looks like a five year old did (which is how old the oldest child was at the time) But it's still holding up great!

When my dad was young, he built a treehouse in his backyard that he called Pleasure Mansion. He still talks about it to this day, almost 50 years later. So I completely agree that having a treehouse or fort when you're young can be an amazing--and unforgettable--experience.
